Saint Patrick Information
Saint Patrick is patron saint of Ireland who lived from circa 385 to 461. His birth
name was Maewyn Succat and was born in Great Britian. He was kinapped by Irish raiders and made a slave at age
16 but escaped and made his way back to England. He had a dream one night where he return to Ireland to spread the word
of Christianity and he join the priesthood. He returned to Ireland and help convert the Irish from Paganism to Christianity.
Saint
Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th which this year is on a Saturday. In Irish, it is called Lá ’le Pádraig or
Lá Fhéile Pádraig. Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig is the Gaelic phrase wishing you a blessing on Saint Patrick's Day. It
is a national holiday in Ireland. In Northern Ireland, it is a bank holiday. In the Republic of Ireland, this is
public holiday. In the United States and many other country, it is celebrated as an informal holiday. St Paddy's day as
it is also known occurs during the lenten season and if it conflicts with holy week is moved to another day. Usually, if
it occurs on a Friday, the Catholic tradition of not eating meat during the lenten season can be suspended by the local bishop.
The celebration of Saint Paddy's Day in the United States started with the first parade in Boston in 1737. The first Saint Patrick's
Day parade in New York City was in 1762.
Many people wear green on this holiday. The shamrock is also associated with
day. In fact, "Wearing of the Green" means to wear a shamrock.
In Las Vegas like many places, the celebration of this day
has become an annual event with parades and Irish music. Additionally, Irish pubs and other restaurants served Irish food such
as corned beef and cabbage.
Las Vegas Saint Patrick's Day Parades and Parties
The Southern Nevada Sons of Erin will hold The 46th Sons of Erin annual Saint
Patricks Day Parade and Festival will be from March 16 through the 18th will include a carnival and kiddie land on all 3 days.
From March 16 through the 18th, there will be free concerts & entertainment and Irish Pub & Irish Water Street Mall.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, along Water Street in downtown Henderson. This year's theme is Wearin' O' the Green,
and trophies will be awarded for Best of Theme, Greenest, Prettiest and Most Original. After the parade, the Hustlers Car Club will
have a car show on Water Street in front of the Henderson Events Plaza. The club plans to raffle an engine and is selling tickets
for $5. The proceeds from the various event will be donated to St. Baldrick's. The Sons of Erin will host a head-shaving fundraiser
for St. Baldrick's at 1 p.m. March 17 after the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The Fremont Street Experience will have a Saint Patrick's
Day Festival from 2:30pm. The acts include the Dancing DJ, Finnegan's Wake, Venus Rising, Arena, Carl ferris, Whiskey Galore,
Hardwood Hotties, Red Not Chili Peppers, and Vegas U2.

Crown and Anchor British Pub is located at 1350 East Tropicana Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89119 and will have
a Saint Patrick's Day Party. The party is Saturday, March 17th and has corned beef & cabbage plus green beer.
